Pregnancy Calendar Week 12

What’s Happening With Mom?

By this week, your baby has formed every organ and is looking very much like a tiny baby, and now it’s time to start growing. Your placenta is growing rapidly too, and your uterus starts to expand. Right now your uterus still fits inside your pelvis, but it won’t for much longer. As it expands, you are going to continue to feel twinges and cramps. Mild cramps are normal. More severe cramps, especially if accompanied by bleeding, should be checked out immediately by your doctor.

Until now, your tiny baby has had very minimal calorie requirements. Now, baby is planning to get bigger. To get from less than an ounce to the average 7 pound newborn, that’s a lot of growing. And that needs a lot of energy from you.

Most moms’ morning sickness starts to ease off around 12-14 weeks and that’s very convenient because as soon as it does, you’ll be ravenous. And the food craving cliché is true – you won’t just be ravenous, you’ll be ravenous for specific foods and probably in the middle of the night too. Your man will question if raccoons got into the kitchen last night after you simply had to have a boiled egg and a banana and ketchup and bake some brownies at 3 in the morning.

The end of this week is the end of your first trimester. You are one third of the way through your pregnancy!

What’s Happening With Baby?

As well as all the vital organs developing this week, your baby’s face is becoming more defined and baby-like. Your baby also has fingernails and toenails.

Your three inch long baby weighs just under an ounce.
