What’s Happening With Mom?
Can you believe that you are two thirds of the way into your pregnancy? In a matter of weeks you’ll be holding your newborn baby. The first two trimesters have been eventful and emotional enough, but take a deep breath, stock up on the kleenex and fasten your seat belts, there’s plenty more to come!
And pregnant women are certainly emotional! Hormones plus stress plus physical demands equals pregnant woman who cries over someone else eating the last of the chips or when your favorite laundry detergent is out of stock at the supermarket, and half of everything on daytime television. Or you’ll feel so happy over finding a missing sock down the side of the washing machine or that your husband actually managed to replaced an empty toilet roll, and the other half of everything on daytime television.
All the anxiety and emotion of pregnancy contribute to your current mood swings and fickle nature, but really, those hormones are the culprit. Try to roll with it, remind yourself and your loved ones that it’s the hormones, and your friends, family and co-workers won’t worry too much about you laughing randomly or getting upset at something silly. But really, they should know better than to eat the last of a pregnant woman’s chips!
Do you know who will love to hear you talk about how excited you are to meet your new arrival, and listen to you talk about how you have been feeling, and how upset you were over the bus being five minutes late and how happy you were to get a free toy in your breakfast cereal? Your baby, that’s who! Baby’s ears are well developed by the end of the second trimester, and baby can hear you talking and singing. Connecting with your baby has another benefit – it can make you feel much more centered and help get all the stress and emotion into perspective.

Your baby’s ears are full of vernix, the fatty substance that is protecting baby’s skin, plus baby is underwater, but amazingly, baby has been able to hear for several weeks, and this week baby will start recognizing and perhaps responding to your voice.
