What’s Happening With Mom?
You are gaining about a pound a week now. Yes, please help yourself to one of those jelly donuts, but try to get most of the extra calories you need from healthy foods.
Some moms feel huge and ungainly, some moms feel beautiful and blooming. Pregnancy affects every woman’s figure differently, and can have a positive or negative effect on body image. And you might be wondering what your body will look like after baby is born. If you aren’t already, eating well and taking gentle exercise now will help you gain weight at a steady rate, and get you into good habits for loosing the baby weight after birth.
What exercise is good for pregnant women? First, check with your doctor before you begin any new exercise. You are carrying extra weight, and your center of gravity is offset, so it’s easier to trip and fall. And your muscles are relaxing in preparation for birth, making it easier to pull a muscle or injure yourself in a fall. Low-impact exercise like walking, yoga and swimming are suitable for most pregnant women. Splash anyone who makes whale jokes.
At this point, you’ll start seeing your doctor every two weeks.
What’s Happening With Baby?
Baby is growing rapidly and gaining half a pound a week, and will be letting you know all about their need for calories. Sorry, they aren’t specifically asking for jelly donuts.
Baby’s eyes are almost fully developed, with pupils that can contract and dilate in response to light and dark.
Baby’s lungs are almost done too, and babies born in the 33rd week will need a stay in the NICU, but most will survive and be healthy. Still, it’s best for baby to stay put for at least few more weeks.
